"Borbon Rosado · Edier Perdomo · Double Washed · Pink Bourbon · Buena Vista, Pitalito, Huila
This Pink Bourbon is the first harvest from a plot on Finca Buena Vista that Edier Perdomo recently renewed by stumping. It scored 88.67 points.
Edier has grown coffee here for nearly 25 years, continuing what his parents began in the Filo de Chuyurco district of Pitalito, Huila. The farm sits at 1,760 metres and holds 14 varieties, among them Gesha, Laurina and Borbón Rosado, planted among plantain, orange and tangerine. He sees the altitude, with its reliable rains and dry spells, as a buffer against unstable weather. His harder problem is finding pickers able to harvest to the standard he sets.
After selection and sorting, the coffee fermented in two stages: 24 hours in the receiving hopper, then 36 hours in its own mucilage, before washing. It dried for 15 days on raised beds.
In the cup, peach and lemon are brightened by pineapple and lemongrass, then rounded out with vanilla and brown sugar. Edier entered the auction for a fair price, for recognition of his craft, and for long term relationships with buyers who value the work behind each lot."
