"La Ermita · Nariño Smallholders · Washed · Green Tip Geisha · Nariño
La Ermita means the small, remote quarters of a hermit, a name that reflects how isolated this place is. This washed Green Tip Geisha comes from smallholder farmers high in the Andes of Nariño, and it scored 88.44 points.
Nariño, in the south west of Colombia, is a region of forests, lakes and varied microclimates, shaped by volcanoes, Galeras among the most active in the country. Its altitude, volcanic soils and closeness to Ecuador give it a single harvest window each year.
The lot was grown at 1,900 metres. Whole cherries rest for 24 hours under anaerobic conditions before depulping. The parchment then goes through 48 hours of open dry fermentation, without water, before it is washed and dried slowly in the shade.
The cup is peach and orange with a cool lift of mint and may chang, oolong tea and a dark molasses finish."
