"Río Atá · Tolima Smallholders · Natural · Geisha · Planadas, Tolima
Río Atá takes its name from the river that cuts through the mountains of southern Tolima. This natural Geisha comes from smallholder farms on the volcanic slopes above its banks, and it scored 88.52 points.
The microclimate is made where warm valley air meets the cool descent from the Nevado del Huila. The farmers here have looked after this land through decades of conflict. Planadas, once a conflict zone, has become a centre for specialty coffee, driven by the peace through coffee movement and the stewardship of the indigenous Nasa We'sx people, and is known for its organic coffees.
Tolima runs from the Magdalena River valley up into the Central Andes, and its specialty coffee is concentrated in southern municipalities like this one. The lot was grown at 1,800 metres. Whole cherries ferment for 72 hours under anaerobic conditions, then dry in the sun with the fruit intact.
In the cup, raspberry, pomegranate and pineapple carry a red wine depth, finishing on cocoa and liqueur filled chocolate."

Carlos Alberto Quiñones Collazos runs it with his twin brother, and for two years they have farmed with bio inputs and their own humus.
