Bait Wael · Community Lot · Natural · Yemenia · Al Mahjar, Hayma Kharijiya, Sana'a
A natural is the most direct statement a valley can make. There is no fermentation architecture to hide behind, no second environment layered over the first. Ripe fruit, air and time, and whatever the terraces have put into the cherry is what ends up in the cup.
Bait Wael is one of the villages of Al Mahjar, in Hayma Kharijiya, where between eighty and ninety farmers work the surrounding slopes. Their trees have been bearing for generations, with sorghum and barley grown on the same ground. Nobody's holding is large, so a lot from here is the valley's work rather than one farm's.
The valley has a serious record. Bait Wael's processed lot in the 2024 auction sold for three hundred and twenty dollars a pound, among the highest prices of that year, and Majid Mather, who farms these same slopes, placed second overall in the same auction.
This lot is that character with nothing in front of it.
