Manuel Romero - Geisha
Indera - 1378
29
At Mindera in Chaguarpamba, Loja, Manuel Romero manages coffee
production at 1,550 masl in a cloud forest-influenced setting where
persistent fog and high humidity regularly shape post-harvest
timelines. Rather than fixed drying schedules, he adjusts harvest
flow and drying space daily based on weather — managing
moisture loss in an environment that does not cooperate with
routine.
Fieldwork emphasises manual weed control and limited chemical
inputs, allowing coffee to grow alongside existing vegetation in
the cloud forest landscape. This Natural-processed Geisha —
bergamot, lemon, raspberry — shows what the variety does at
lower altitude under cloud forest influence: brighter and more
citrus-forward than its high-altitude counterparts, the aromatic
character redirected by the environment it grows in.
