Leonidas Jaramillo - Typica Mejorado
El Alisal - 8292
23
Leonidas Jaramillo is a fourth-generation coffee producer at El
Alisal in Quilanga, Loja — carrying a family history in
agriculture while actively redirecting part of the operation toward
specialty-focused production. At 1,900 masl on former pastureland,
sections of the farm have been gradually replanted under native
alder and fruit trees to stabilise soil on exposed hillsides.
Two lots from El Alisal appear in this competition: this Typica
Mejorado and a Sidra Bourbon, both Washed. Seasonal rainfall in
Quilanga can extend drying timelines, and post-harvest handling
adjusts accordingly each year. Orange blossom, passion fruit, and
strawberry: Typica Mejorado at high-altitude Quilanga expressing a
brighter, more tropical profile than many of its Loja
counterparts.
