Galo Morales - Typica Mejorado

Cruz Loma - 2877

15

Carlos Jaramillo cultivates Typica Mejorado at Llavicocha in the Saraguro canton of Loja, at 2,100 masl — one of the two highest farms in this competition. The elevation drives slower cherry maturation, extending the harvest window beyond what is typical for lower-lying farms in the region. A shaded system incorporating native forest and leguminous trees helps maintain soil structure on steep gradients.
Rather than relying on complex fermentation techniques, Carlos has concentrated on field-level consistency — selective harvesting and stable Washed post-harvest routines adapted to the cooler night temperatures at altitude. Two lots from Llavicocha appear in this competition: this Typica Mejorado and a Geisha, both Washed, both earning their scores through patience and precision. The jasmine, peach, and cocoa here reflect what high-altitude Typica Mejorado does when the process stays out of its way.
