Carlos Jaramillo - Geisha
Llavecocha - 7611
21
At Llavicocha in Saraguro, Carlos Jaramillo cultivates Geisha at
2,100 masl across land shaped by steep gradients, fluctuating water
availability, and the longer ripening cycles that come with high
altitude. A shaded system of native forest and leguminous trees
reduces erosion on the steepest plots and supports consistent soil
health across the farm.
Carlos builds his approach around field-level consistency rather
than process complexity — selective harvesting, routine
pruning, and a straightforward Washed protocol adapted to cooler
night temperatures. Two lots from Llavicocha appear in this
competition: this Geisha and a Typica Mejorado. Together they show
how the same careful, altitude-adapted approach expresses
differently across varieties: orange blossom, apricot, and honey
here where the Typica showed jasmine, peach, and cocoa.
